Hi, I'm new I have 2 budgies I believe to be male, around 12-14 weeks purchased them from a local petstore. They were both little charactors in the store, the blue one was bopping his head and bouncing and interacting well and another blue and green one, who was chirpy.

I know it wasnt a great idea to get them but I fell in love with them, they have both had their tail feathers pulled out, bitten off by the other birds, they only have a couple of long wing feathers left each and can't fly. Green and blue one today lost a blood feather which had been sticking out for a while had them 8 days now and they chirpy. Managed to get the blue one to step up onto my finger within a couple of days the green one just seems very scared anytime I put my hand in the cage.

I have read a few training methods and plan on persisting with those, I'm just wondering of anyone could offer any advise really on taming, how long it'll take they're feathers to come back, noticed some dried blood on the perch but cant see any on the bird or anywhere else I'm assuming its from the blood feather.

I just want the best for my birds, and want them to eventually be tame and be able to come out of their cage alot, any tips or info or anything would be great please... thanks.

hiya. as dee said there are lots and lots of tips on the site and also lots of personal stories. my biggest tip would be patience. . . . and food lol. and lots of communication. they love to hear you talk and get all exctied when you start squeaking at them in a high pitched voice. i hope your taming goes well. maybe you cud post some pics of ur new friends for us all to enjoy. x

Here's a new picture, they're settling in really well, very chirpy and noisy! Hoping to throw myself into taming this week now they're more settled, at the moment they're not at all happy when I put my hand in the cage unless they're sleepy and then sometimes Derek with climb onto my finger....

Derek and Ray are two little beauties, good luck with the training, little and often works well, as does an enormous amount of patience  happy
